The best I could do...

Up early. Out to the cottage before six, working through edits on the book. Put in some quality time before moving on.

Worked out mid-afternoon, then went grocery shopping. Didn’t quite get around to the N pieces.

Read Bobbie Ann Mason’s “Shiloh,” last night. First time. What a terrific story.

Lots going on, too little time to keep track.

Looking forward to a quiet, productive weekend.

I'm only in it for the participation trophy...

Wonder what happened here? Just noticed a big hole where several posts should have been.

Anyway. I’m here now.

Good day at the keyboard, while it lasted. Decent workout too, and a nice afternoon walk. Was going to work on few commercial doings, but got waylaid. After that, got lazy and took a long nap.

Weather was pretty nice today after a three day stretch of overcast skies. Not sure what tomorrow’s gonna bring, but think I read a forecast for snow over the weekend.

Had a brief FaceTime with the boys late this afternoon. Jack hogged the phone while Matt shot him with rubber arrows. Needless to say the conversation, while amusing, didn’t last long.

Hoping for an early rise tomorrow. And a winning lottery ticket.

Hurry up, please, it's time...

Another nice day in the Rockies.

Up at a decent hour, revising. Stuff I put in play yesterday seems to have held up, so a reader draft of the novel (before the end of the week) seems more and more likely.

Got another early FaceTime from the boys this morning. They start school proper this coming week, so this may be a last hurrah of sorts. We’ll see.

Got in a nice walk this afternoon. If weather allows, might try jogging the stairs in the soccer park again. Frustrated with the progress of the arm/shoulder but have to remember the rehab’s supposed to take a full year. Some exercises are coming along better than others. Still, need to be cautious about damaging the repairs.

Been having these long involved dreams about the day Jack first went to school.

About the night Matt was born.

Working it out...

Dropped a post somehow.

Guess I’ll stick with this one.

Biceps been hurting a little, but had a good night’s sleep nonetheless. Up early plugging away at the novel. Think I did okay. Back to believing I’ll have a new reader draft in about a week. Eager to get it under some fresh eyes.

Got a couple of new stories in my N queue. Eager to get at those, too.

Had a long FaceTime chat with the boys just before noon. Worked out after, cleaned the house and watched a game. All in all, a pretty good day.

Now if we could only manage a Covid vaccine.

Chili dogs & wine tonight. Maybe a movie. We’ll see how it shakes down.

Not bad for the middle of January...

Well, I’ve now lived to see a sitting president impeached twice.

Before it happened, I got in some good edits on the book. Also got in a nice workout and managed to push a bunch of paperwork out the door. After it happened, I got a nap.

Something’s telling me I need to buy my 2021 fishing license tomorrow.

Winging it...

Worked on a couple of new pieces this morning after a long, restless night.

For once, I can’t blame the arm for keeping me awake, though it didn’t feel all that spectacular either. Closed the bathroom door after running Drano down the shower drain, and was forced to listen to Mr. Kitcat caterwaul the rest of the night because I’d shut him out of his current favorite water hole. Biggest bummer was, the treatment didn’t work.

Not sure how much headway I made on the stories either, but no complaints even so. Got in some reading time, a decent workout, and a long chat with Jack on FaceTime.

Pork chops for dinner.

A bottle of wine, maybe.

We’ll see where the evening leads.

Buddy gonna shut you down...

Woke up to a cold morning. Sun’s coming on sooner now.

Put in some good time at the keyboard, working on a new short. Talked to an old buddy on the phone, too, and after that, worked out. Got some reading in this afternoon. A nap. All in all a quiet day.

For journalistic purposes—which I try mightily to avoid—I’ll note the President’s Twitter account was permanently disabled today.

In other news, life goes on.

Gotta punch things into high gear tomorrow. Tonight, more of the same.

Only Tuesday...

No idea where this one went. Was up early to work, and everything—pretty much everything—after was a blur.

Worked out, read a little, cooked up a pot of potato leek soup, and that pretty much covers it.

Big run-off election in Georgia tonight. Tomorrow, nothing but blue skies.

DeLillo book? The Silence? Man. It’s gonna take a while to recover from that one. The guy’s some kind of seer. Like nobody else I’ve ever read.

Not making any predictions, but...

Got an early start this morning and made the most of it. Revisions are coming along, the sun’s been shining. We’re a week into the new year and, who knows, it might all turn out okay after all.

Put in a workout around noon, tended to some personal stuff, then came home and did a little more work at the keyboard.

Temps have stayed low and the snow’s still sticking around, but the weather people are saying it’s going to warm up mid-week. We’ll see. Be nice to get out and truck around a while.

Took care of a few submissions.

Copies of the Red Rock Review showed today.

New Year's looking good already...

Great day. Got two separate FaceTime calls from my princes of Pittsburgh. Made good headway with revisions, too. No workout, but that’s all right. Probably needed a rest and didn’t know it. Tree is down, house is three-quarters back to normal, and tomorrow looks to be another good-weather day.

Doing my part to keep the new year happy...

Early rise after a decent night’s sleep. Don’t get to say that very often.

Trudged ahead with revisions on the long piece, and spent the rest of the morning with other paperwork. Got in a nice workout a little after noon, then went off grocery shopping.

Made a pot of clam chowder for dinner.

Started the DeLillo book last night. Had to keep myself from downing it in one sitting.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow and the start of a new week.

So far, 2021’s everything it promised to be.

Finally...

2021—at last.

Up early to the cottage and productive morning of work.

Decent workout this afternoon followed by two different FaceTime calls from the boys. Gonna take a deep breath tonight, hit the rack early, and reset for the new year.

Getting up to speed...

Coffee with my buddy, George this morning at the Broadmoor. Can’t remember the last time we got together. He’s been quarantined up in Labrador since, March, I think. Anyway, good to catch up.

Bright but cold today. Don’t believe it got out of the mid-thirties. Don’t expect I’ll be fishing any too soon, but want to be ready. Got to order my 2021 license.

Long day of paperwork, correspondence. Didn’t get as much done as I’d have liked, but that’s a familiar tune. Salvaged a workout anyway. A brief FaceTime call with Jackie, too.

Haven’t been sleeping all that well, but figure it’s as much the goings on at the moment as it is the PT. Might try and stay up a little later tonight, see if that makes a difference.

Feels like Sunday...

Had a nice steak dinner last night to close out the holidays. A late rise this morning putting in revisions on the novel. Quiet day all around, and plenty lazy to boot. Took a short trip out to Borders, and Starbucks. Otherwise, sat around and read. Got a FaceTime call from Jackie, but even that was more brief than usual. Feels like everybody’s taking deep breath, waiting for the new year to arrive.
