On a Monday...

Decent day at the keyboard.

Come afternoon got a chance to workout with Sol again. Been a while. Had a nice time.

Took a walk when I got home, and jawed a little more about last night’s spectacle at the Oscars. Jesus, people are ugly. Ugly and stupid and selfish.

Saturday evening, 6:19 pm...

Spent the better part of the morning at the movies, something I don’t do very often. Had a nice time. Small crowd, good flick, hot popcorn.

Wrote for most of the afternoon, hoping to straighten out the mess of the story I’ve been dragging behind me for a month or more. Think I may have finally—knock wood—hit on the fix for it. Hope so.

Was a nice day today. Cool, but sunny. Lots of blue sky and only the occasional cloud. Supposed to be in the mid-seventies the next few days then turn cold again. Guess we’ll see.

Dryer’s been down almost a month now, but the supply chain’s supposed to have opened enough that we can expect its replacement on Wednesday. Been hanging the sheets out to dry, the way mom used to in the old days, and enjoying the results. The towels and t-shirts, less so.

Going in for my second shingles shot tomorrow. That pretty much takes care of all the important needlework I’ll need for a while.

Need to start thinking about yardwork soon.

Water on the brain...

D’s birthday today. 47. What a milestone.

Kids came in yesterday for Betty’s funeral. Had scones and coffee with them this morning. They look happy together, and it feels good to see them that way.

Spent the later part of the morning talking to the plumbers about the fix in the upstairs bath. Repairs are in order, but not looking forward to the four, five, six months it’s going to take to get it back in shape. Especially with the supply lines being so messed up. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything to be done about it.

Expecting a quiet night.

Shaking down some good vibes...

Read some new stories by my old friend, Renuka Raghavan. Nice work all around. Always happy to see my pals find success in the literary world when it’s so hard to come by .

Did some okay writing myself this morning, then headed out the gym to blow off steam. Took a nap when I got home, but did get in some worthwhile daydreaming while I was at it.

Fingers crossed I can get back at it tomorrow, early, and maybe finish one of the shorts I’ve been goofing around with.

Visitors this week. Need to stay frosty.

Small doings...

Up early after a good night’s sleep.

Put in some good work at the keyboard, including the last revisions on the reader copy of the kid’s book I wrote for Matt and Jack.

Took the day off from the gym and went to an early afternoon movie out east. A good decision all the way around.

Pretty day, though I didn’t get out for the walk I’d wanted. Maybe tomorrow, if the weather holds.

Once again, in search of lost time...

Wow. Day went sideways.

Crawled out of bed late, missed PT, missed the gym, my dental appointment got twisted up, and I hardly had any time at the keyboard.

Positives: got letters off to the boys, and managed a short walk around the hood.

Nice sunny day, today. A little cool, but nice. Heard things are supposed to go south again by tomorrow afternoon.

Tile guy’s supposed to show at 8:00 am tomorrow. We’ll see. Meanwhile, settling in with a nice fish dinner and crossing my fingers things pick up.

The comings and goings of time...

Daylight savings time…again.

Managed a decent night’s sleep, but only because we didn’t turn in until after 11:00 last night. No complaints. Just sayin.

Spent the morning at the keyboard working revisions for a number of different projects. Spent the afternoon cleaning up around the house.

Pretty day today. Got out for a nice walk in the late afternoon, and took in the sun. Looking at cool weather and maybe even more snow as the week goes on, so glad to be able to spend some time outdoors.

Pushed a critique out the door this morning only to find a new story in my queue. So far, it’s been a light load this time around.

Gotta catch up with my correspondence tomorrow. Same with my research.

Tonight, taking it easy.

Inching along...

Up early.

Not a bad start.

Took care of a few domestic issues, got in some good writing time, then headed out to the gym for rehab.

Thought I might accomplish a bit more, but happy with the output I managed and wiling to call the day a win.

Got another inch or so of snow this morning. Temps have been brisk, but are supposed to rise the next few days.

Couple of critiques to write, so that should keep me busy going into the weekend.

Art museum on Saturday.

Potato soup for the soul...

It isn’t I’m out of sorts, exactly, but man, something’s getting in my way. I expect it’s me (because, who else?), only I don’t take as much heart in knowing it as I do fear in thinking that if I acknowledge it, it will stick around even longer. There’s a sentence for you.

That said, I’m still working on the same old pieces, and still looking to put an end to them.

Forewent the gym again today to give the back a little more rest. It’s feeling better, but not tip-top. Seeing my PT guy, Brian, tomorrow, so maybe I’ll get a few pointers on making a comeback.

Meanwhile, another quiet evening at home.

Leek and potato soup.

Wine.

I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled...

Woke around 4:00 am thinking the bad might have repaired itself overnight, but no such luck. Walked around gingerly most of the day, wondering where and when I’d get the wind knocked out of me. Good news is, it’s less painful than it was yesterday, and it’s made me forget entirely about my sore neck.

This said, had a productive morning at the keyboard, and a more than enjoyable afternoon at the movies. Was sorry we had to move the Denver Art Center tickets to next Saturday, but it was a good decision in the end. Now I have something to look forward to next week.

Weather a little cooler today. Another front is moving in and temps are expected to drop near freezing in the coming week. Looks like the taste of spring we’ve been enjoying is just that—a taste. Glad I got out earlier in the week and did some fishing. May be a while before I get my line wet again.

All in all, a pleasant Saturday.

Limping into the weekend...

Weird. Woke up with a strained back. Too much work on the straps at the gym? Anyway, put the day on a different course than originally charted, including a long nap with the heating pad this afternoon. No gym, but did manage a long walk around the neighborhood.

Did some good work at the keyboard—while it lasted—but didn’t get as far as I’d have liked. Still looking for that next gear.

Had tickets to the Impressionist show at the Denver Art Center tomorrow, but moved them to next Saturday owing to the back issue. Bummer there, but maybe we’ll head out to a movie tomorrow instead.

Got a letter from young Jack today. Always a treat.

New N story’s come in as well. Looking forward reading it.

Cruising toward the weekend...

Another lovely day. Sun, blue skies, and all the rest.

Up early, plugged away at the keyboard, spent the afternoon at the gym.

Rehab went well.

Writing went well.

Made some late afternoon submissions while listening to the Doors Morrison Hotel. All good, if just a little bit too short.

Caught a nice rainbow yesterday at Quail Lake. Saving it for breakfast.

Looking ahead to some time off...

Keeping this one brief.

Woke, worked, went to rehab, and managed a few phone calls. Caught up with my sis, and my buddy S.

Dropped in to Rico’s this afternoon to celebrate the anniversary of a long year.

All’s good in the world.

Forsaking the keyboard tomorrow for some time down on the Arkansas with my fly rod.

Small observations to start the week...

Noticed I’ve been a little skimpy with the posts for a while. Not intentional by any means. Just more tired than usual by the time I get to working on them. That, and I’ve been leading a pretty sheltered life for a while.

Anyway, up before six today, and out to the keyboard early. Still paring a way on the newest short, but spent some time reading and researching, too.

Was looking forward to a good workout, but misplaced by key card somehow and never managed. Drove to the gym to see if some kindhearted soul might let me in, but the joint was empty so I drove home. Found the key later under the highback in the den. How it got there is anybody’s guess.

K off to Italy for a while. Hope she has a good trip. She’s been scratching at the door for months, and with any luck this will satisfy the wanderlust a while.

Gonna look for an early turn-in time tonight and a reset for tomorrow. A big day writing would be great.

Quiet Saturday...

Busted ass on office stuff today.

Wrote a couple of critiques for N, spent an hour or so on the phone with my uncle, hit the gym, made some new submissions and did a little shopping for cat food.

Hoping to get back to the fiction tomorrow.

Past due...

Slept in an extra half hour this morning, but it was all for the best. Collected myself after a couple of cups and made it to the end of the new story. The revisions felt strong, and it feels like I’ve got a good piece on my hands, although it’s going to take some time to get everything in place. Especially after having gone back to the novel and memoir.

Weather warmed a little today. Not much, but a little. Headed out to the gym after shuffling paperwork, then to the hardware store to pick up a tire gauge. All in all, and action-packed afternoon.

Finished reading the two new N stories, and made notes on both. Figure to send them back tomorrow, or maybe Sunday.

No excitement beyond that, but I’m good with the lull and using the time to my advantage. Might start in on the “embezzlement” short tomorrow. Tonight? Dinner and a movie.
