Another Easy Saturday...

Overcast morning.

Put in time with some edits on a new story, read a couple of pieces for N, then wrote letters to the boys. Spent the afternoon at the theatre watching The Wizard of Oz.

Couldn’t have had a better day.

Sorting through a lot of emotions these past few weeks. My Uncle, Kitcat. Other things I can’t do anything about. Glad to have some new work come in, if for no other reason that it keeps me busy.

Weather people predict rain for the next week. Gonna have to look for a time when I can cut the lawn.

Nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands...

Just when I thought we were out of the soup, rain clouds appeared over the mountains again. Snow in the high country, rain down here. Happiness high and low.

Put in some quiet time at the keyboard this morning, then wandered off to the gym for a quick workout and PT afterward.

Made a pot of potato leek soup when I got home, then went for a walk around the neighborhood.

New Symphony project in the wings. Something to keep my busy this weekend. Need to pick up some gas, too, and get a start on the lawn.

A straight-up dose of reality...

Two straight day of rain. Thunder came down through the night, and all but sat in our laps. Sounded like it does up in the mountains. Close by.

Grass looks happy, and to the best of my knowledge none of the flowers have died or been trampled down by hail. So that’s good.

Spent the day in Denver, visiting my uncle. Not holding out hope he’ll make it a whole lot longer. Had an episode just as I was walking into his room. Took three nurses 20 minutes to get him across the room into his bed. Read a short story to him, then visited a bit. But didn’t stay a long as I’d have liked. Had to leave early owing to the threat of snow on Monument Hill.

Back home now, exhausted.

Ready for a quiet night.

Benediction...

Lovely day.

Dragged myself out of bed this morning, and wandered out to the cottage to work on one of the new shorts. Made some good edits on a piece that hasn’t been easy on me. Tomorrow, back to the long thing.

Spent the rest of the day in Denver, visiting my uncle. We finished A River Runs through It, and have moved on to James Galvin’s The Meadow. Gonna remember these days for a long long time.

Molto bene...

Decent start to a new week.

Woke to more nice weather. Blue skies, breezes, sun. Worked on a short most of the morning before going off to the gym. Managed a workout, the haircut I’ve been chasing for the past two weeks, and some chore running before the clouds moved in.

Quiet evening.

Looking to regroup over a tuna casserole and, quite possibly, a cold mojito.

Planning to see my uncle in Denver tomorrow, if all goes well. Temps are supposed to hit the mid-eighties, making it as good a day as any to spend a long drive in an air conditioned car.

Starts and stops...

Had the pleasure of almost doing damn near nothing today.

Put in time on a short story this morning, hit the gym late afternoon, came home and planted some rose bushes, and spent an hour FaceTiming with young Jack.

All in all, a nice quiet day.

The yard’s coming alive, though slowly, as is always the case. Trees are budding, but the leaves are small and a long way from shading anything. Have worries about the locust in back—the one we repaired after the snowstorm rent it in two—but will deal with it however we have to.

Neighbor Robin is back after a long absence. Nice to see her and her guy again.

Lazy, lazy day...

The nice days have been coming in spades. Beautiful weather today.

Made some progress on the long piece this morning, then headed off to the gym for a workout.

Came up short in our late afternoon flower run, but scored a big bag of potting mix in anticipation of when we do.

Feels as if everyone but me’s a little tired today. Good thing the weekend’s around the corner.

Thursday, 6:28...

Gotta nice headache going for me tonight. Been carrying it around most of the day.

Was up early, and wrote most of the morning.

Took a break just before noon and prepped the stakes for the boys’ fort. Went to the gym afterward, but didn’t have much in the tank and only managed a long bike ride. Hoping to do better tomorrow.

PT this afternoon. Now that Brian’s moved to the north side of town it’s gotten to be something of a production just getting out there. Still, felt good to get the neck worked on.

Hoping for a quiet night. Figure to take it easy.

Little by little...

Pretty day. Spent most of it in the nursing home in Denver, reading to my uncle. Not long after I arrived, a hospice nurse came to the room, bearing a chess board. I read for an hour or so, the nurse took over with the chess pieces while E and I went out on the patio to talk.

Glad to be home again.

Good to see the blooms again...

Thought I’d have more juice when I sat down to write this, but the day’s caught up with me.

Pretty weather today.

Woke early, worked on the long piece, hit the gym mid morning, then came home to take care of some yard work. Fertilized the lawn, planted a row of roses, then cleaned up some logs for the boy’s fort we’re building on the west side of the house. Lots going on, but all good. Hope tomorrow’s as productive as today.

I’ll call it a win if I can manage a haircut before the weekend.

A long, long sleep...

Drove up to Denver today to visit my uncle. When I got there, he was curled up in bed, asleep. E said he had a hard morning at the VA.

Stuck around for an hour, reading the news, then drove home. He never did wake up. Left him to his dreams.

Positives...

Put in some time on the long piece this morning. Hadn’t looked at it in a while, but was pleased with what I’ve written so far. It’s a long way from perfect, but the movement of the plot feels good and the voice is pretty much where I want it.

Spent the rest of the day policing the yard. Got most of the flowerpots back where they belong, and re-did the brick work on the side patio so the grill would sit a little more level.

Pretty day. Should’ve gone for a walk later, but didn’t think of it. Maybe tomorrow. Still a lot of weekend to go.

Easy does it...

Drove up to Denver today to pay my uncle a visit. Had a nice time, despite his not being able to speak or get out of bed. I read to him (A River Runs Through It) for a couple of hours, and promised to come back next week and pick up where we left off.

Not much else to talk about, though I did find an end for one of my new stories this morning and think maybe I have something worthwhile if I can smooth it out in revision.

Weather people are talking snow again tonight. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, a long dark cloud’s rolled in, and it doesn’t look as if it has any intention of moving on.

Tired. Looking forward to a quiet evening.

No snow, no nothing...

Well, the weather people were wrong. Again. Got up this morning and lifted the shade and the twelve inches of snow we’d been warned were coming never arrived. I mean, nothing.

Made the most of the day working on story, and sending out letters.

Killed the middle of the afternoon at Lowe’s, hunting for flower pots.

All in a day's doings...

Meandering sort of day. So much so, I can hardly remember waking up. This is good, yes?

Worked on a newer piece this morning, but gave it up for some chill time at the gym. Not a lot of people there today, so got in a nice workout.

Goofed around for a while when I got back home, enjoying Tucker Carlson’s firing over a cup of noodles, then went out fertilizer hunting at Lowe’s.

Took a nice afternoon walk before getting back to the keyboard.

My uncle isn’t doing so well, so I’m thinking of driving up to Denver tomorrow to pay him a visit.

A journey south...

Drove down to Taos today to pick up some coyote fencing. Pretty day, great time. The Sangres were still dusted in snow, and the countryside was brown and beautiful.

Ate a great Mexican lunch of enchiladas, chili rellenos, posole and beans at a joint called Orlanddo’s. Seriously good food. Best rellenos I’ve ever eaten.

Drive home was quiet and easy. Looks to be an equally quiet night. Glad we took the time to get out of town.

Thursday!

Crazy day.

Up early, sent off files, and spent the rest of the morning with the Haberkost boys drinking coffee and talking sh*t. Worked out after, took a walk and a nap, and now here it is dinnertime.

Making a quick but savage drive into the heart of NM tomorrow. Details to come.
