How many ways can you spell hot?

Sunday. A sunny Sunday. A mercilessly hot Sunday that took the starch out of everyone.

Sat in the cottage most of the morning, writing and catching up on paperwork. Spent the afternoon running errands.

Got a chance to go to the gym, but it was scuttled after a quick half-hour ride on the bike.

Weather folks say we’re looking at temps above 90 most of the week with no chance of rain. Been trying my hardest to keep the lawn alive, but like last summer, it’s slowly going down.

Taking it easy tonight. Busy week ahead.

Not even sure what to call it...

Followed a guy to the gym this morning. Hand painted on the back of his van was a statement that began, “Trader Biden” and went on, in an expletive-filled rant, to warn the “woke mob” that “were coming 4U.” Later, when I got home, I read that a Canadian woman had mailed a ricin-laced letter to Donald Trump, suggesting he sit out the coming election. I guess we’ve all gone crazy.

Mid-week musings...

Been dropping days left and right. This cold-thing is keeping me from my appointed rounds. Feeling a little better today, but not completely up to par. Lots of laziness. Lots of coughing. Lots of Kleenex.

Got in some decent revisions on the long piece today. Haven’t looked at it in, like, six weeks, so was happy to find it still there.

Hoped to get more accomplished today, but was forced to do some unexpected shopping, which killed the better part of the afternoon.

Missing the boys like crazy. Got in a short FaceTime yesterday, but it ain’t the same as having them here.

Raining now, after a long hot day. Hoping for a cool night.

Lucky sunday...

Feeling an uptick in energy today. Cold—or whatever it is—is still hanging on pretty tight, but the throat doesn’t feel as sore. Happy for that.

Spent most of the day writing. Feeling better about that, too.

Got some revisions in place, some letters sent.

Sacrament Review wrote to say they want my short “Down There.” Good start to a new week.

Small observations...

Been a long few days since my last entry. Many goings on. Fishing, camping, excursions to the parks and movie theaters…. So much I can’t keep track. Mommy comes back tomorrow after a two-week hiatus to Bethesda, and Minneapolis. Only seven more days until live gets back to normal. Or whatever normal turns out to be. Glad I haven’t had much freelance work to look after. Not sure how I’d have managed to keep up.

Food for thought...

Hot, hot day.

Spent the morning messing around the house, the afternoon at the Manitou Arcade. Can’t say I remember much on either side of that, but the sloppy joe’s we had for dinner were the best ever.

Just trying to stay in the moment...

Whole day fishing.

The little guys are getting better with every outing. Took home two rainbow—breakfast later in the week.

Temps are the only thing holding us back. A full week of ninety degree weather still ahead. We’ll see whether it holds. Have a camp site reserved up in Elevenmile canyon, but the bureau is keeping to its prediction of rain that night.

Bushed tonight. Figure to hit the sack at an early hour.

PT with Brian tomorrow. After that, who knows?

Shifting into gear...

Just back from the county fair in Calhan. Big fun. Bumper cars, funnel cake, live animals…the whole enchilada.

Start of our first week solo. Boys will be well-tended but parent-less for the next two weeks. Hoping for lots of outdoor time, weather permitting.

Haven’t had any real keyboard time for a while, but figure the time off will do me some good. Not so with the gym time, but that’ll work itself out, too.

Hot weather’s set in with temps in the nineties now. We’re supposed to have an overnight camping trip up in Elevenmile Canyon this week, but the weather bureau is calling for rain. Fingers crossed we avoid the worst.

Dinner at K’s tonight!

It's all coming to be...

More rain. Figure that.

Worked around the house today, and left the rest up for grabs. Got in a little bit of writing early on, but not much. The odds won’t improve when the boys fly in tomorrow evening, yet it’s the one occasion I don’t mind putting down the keyboard. Looking forward to our time together. Every bit of it.

Entries may get dicey here over the next few weeks.

We’ll see.

A Nice way to end the week...

Up early to Kairos this morning to catch up my bud, G. Spent a couple of hours shooting the breeze. A nice getaway.

Mowed the lawn and policed the yard before going off to the gym for a light workout. Hailed while I was gone, so more policing tomorrow. On the happy side, the grass looks fine and the mountains are one more day into the summer without being on fire.

Looking for an easy evening.

Hope to get some writing in tomorrow. Need to send off my latest N review as well.

Feels like I'm missing something...

Overcast morning did an about face and turned into a sunny afternoon.

Meanwhile, worked on one of my old shorts, had a rehab session with Brian, did a few odd chores around the house, and picked up some new pillows at Bed Bath & Beyond in anticipation of the boys’ visit.

Got a haircut too.

Have an early morning with my pal, George, tomorrow. Interested in knowing how the writer’s strike is coming (or not), and getting the release date for his show.

There it is, in technicolor...

Woke up believing it was Tuesday, and found out different.

Plugged away at the keyboard early on. Talked to S for a while, then went off to the gym where some chick with a bad ear couldn’t help herself from singing (out of tune) in a high voice through her entire workout.

Came home and cooked up a pot of split pea soup.

Rain set in again around 5:30.

Independence day...

Pretty morning. Watched the neighborhood kids ride down to the park on their bikes for the big parade.

Spent most of the day cleaning up and sending off the Philharmonic projects. Glad to have them out of the way. Need to start gearing up for the boys’ visit. Lots to do this week.

Big rain this afternoon. Took a quick stroll around the neighborhood when it was over.

Not much else going on. Burgers and fries tonight. Might turn in early and get back to the Faulkner book.

Tomorrow? Who knows?
