Went back to Elevenmile today to do a little more fishing. More people than I expected, but it was a good time all the same. Caught and released one rainbow. Was lucky to get one, judging from the number of people trouncing around up there. Lots of rock climbers, tubers, loafers and non-anglers. Maybe they were getting a jump on the weekend—before the big rains come.
At the risk of repeating myself...
Temps in the nineties again.
Drove up to Elevenmile Canyon this morning and got in a nice walk. Picked some wild raspberries, took some snaps. Enjoyed the cool weather and blue skies while they lasted. Going back up again tomorrow, see if I can’t catch a few fish.
Meanwhile, working on the same old stuff.
HOt...
Man. More hot. You could keep the sprinkler system going all day and it wouldn’t stop the lawn from burning out. Guess I’ll just have to quit worrying about it and pray for fall. Supposed to see a break in the temps on Friday, but not sure I’ll care at that point.
Up and writing at a decent hour. Got in a nice walk and some time at the gym. Otherwise, a waste of the day.
Figure to make a day of it tomorrow in Elevenmile Canyon, fishing. Promised myself I’d get out this week, and it seems like as good a time as any. Fish or no fish, it’s gotta be better than sitting around the Springs, dying of heat.
Another blistering day...
Ninety-some degrees, even as I write this.
It’s 6:16 and the old days of light afternoon showers cooling things down is a thing of the past. It stays hot now well into the evening. Don’t want to wish my life away, but man, I can’t wait for fall.
Got in an early workout this morning. Pretty early, anyway. Weren’t many at the gym, making me wonder if I ought to retool my schedule.
Put in some good work on the long piece today, and did a bit of noodling on one of my shorts. Picked up an acceptance slip along the way.
Need to catch up with a couple of folks before the week is out. Fell behind while the boys were here, and am still working my way back.
How many ways can you spell hot?
Sunday. A sunny Sunday. A mercilessly hot Sunday that took the starch out of everyone.
Sat in the cottage most of the morning, writing and catching up on paperwork. Spent the afternoon running errands.
Got a chance to go to the gym, but it was scuttled after a quick half-hour ride on the bike.
Weather folks say we’re looking at temps above 90 most of the week with no chance of rain. Been trying my hardest to keep the lawn alive, but like last summer, it’s slowly going down.
Taking it easy tonight. Busy week ahead.
Slow, hot Saturday...
Went to see Oppenheimer today. Nothing to write home about, but it did keep us out of the heat most of the afternoon.
Got in a few lines of decent revision early in the morning. Hope to do the same tomorrow.
Not even sure what to call it...
Followed a guy to the gym this morning. Hand painted on the back of his van was a statement that began, “Trader Biden” and went on, in an expletive-filled rant, to warn the “woke mob” that “were coming 4U.” Later, when I got home, I read that a Canadian woman had mailed a ricin-laced letter to Donald Trump, suggesting he sit out the coming election. I guess we’ve all gone crazy.
Mid-week musings...
Been dropping days left and right. This cold-thing is keeping me from my appointed rounds. Feeling a little better today, but not completely up to par. Lots of laziness. Lots of coughing. Lots of Kleenex.
Got in some decent revisions on the long piece today. Haven’t looked at it in, like, six weeks, so was happy to find it still there.
Hoped to get more accomplished today, but was forced to do some unexpected shopping, which killed the better part of the afternoon.
Missing the boys like crazy. Got in a short FaceTime yesterday, but it ain’t the same as having them here.
Raining now, after a long hot day. Hoping for a cool night.
Lucky sunday...
Feeling an uptick in energy today. Cold—or whatever it is—is still hanging on pretty tight, but the throat doesn’t feel as sore. Happy for that.
Spent most of the day writing. Feeling better about that, too.
Got some revisions in place, some letters sent.
Sacrament Review wrote to say they want my short “Down There.” Good start to a new week.
Saturday...
Got back to writing today. Easing my way in. Took a break a little after 12:00 to see a movie, then came home and worked a little longer.
Matt’s birthday today. The big 7.
working my way back...
Boys leave, and now I’m down with the crud. Hoping for a quick recovery.
The rest is legend...
Up early. The six of us drove to Elevenmile reservoir and spent the morning on the water onboard a pontoon boat. Fishing was terrible, but the day was lovely. Had burgers afterward at the Thunderbird in Florissant.
Easy now...
Winding down another wild week. Took it easy today. Lots of family time around the house.
Looking forward to a quiet, uneventful evening.
Small observations...
Been a long few days since my last entry. Many goings on. Fishing, camping, excursions to the parks and movie theaters…. So much I can’t keep track. Mommy comes back tomorrow after a two-week hiatus to Bethesda, and Minneapolis. Only seven more days until live gets back to normal. Or whatever normal turns out to be. Glad I haven’t had much freelance work to look after. Not sure how I’d have managed to keep up.
Food for thought...
Hot, hot day.
Spent the morning messing around the house, the afternoon at the Manitou Arcade. Can’t say I remember much on either side of that, but the sloppy joe’s we had for dinner were the best ever.
Savage fun...
Tired.
Long day.
Got in some swimming with the boys after my PT session.
Looking at an early turn in tonight and an equally early rise tomorrow.
Just trying to stay in the moment...
Whole day fishing.
The little guys are getting better with every outing. Took home two rainbow—breakfast later in the week.
Temps are the only thing holding us back. A full week of ninety degree weather still ahead. We’ll see whether it holds. Have a camp site reserved up in Elevenmile canyon, but the bureau is keeping to its prediction of rain that night.
Bushed tonight. Figure to hit the sack at an early hour.
PT with Brian tomorrow. After that, who knows?
Shifting into gear...
Just back from the county fair in Calhan. Big fun. Bumper cars, funnel cake, live animals…the whole enchilada.
Start of our first week solo. Boys will be well-tended but parent-less for the next two weeks. Hoping for lots of outdoor time, weather permitting.
Haven’t had any real keyboard time for a while, but figure the time off will do me some good. Not so with the gym time, but that’ll work itself out, too.
Hot weather’s set in with temps in the nineties now. We’re supposed to have an overnight camping trip up in Elevenmile Canyon this week, but the weather bureau is calling for rain. Fingers crossed we avoid the worst.
Dinner at K’s tonight!
One week already gone....
Quick check in.
Been having a blast with the boys. Fishing, swimming, kicking around the mountains….
Pretty night tonight.
All quiet on the western front.
It's all coming to be...
More rain. Figure that.
Worked around the house today, and left the rest up for grabs. Got in a little bit of writing early on, but not much. The odds won’t improve when the boys fly in tomorrow evening, yet it’s the one occasion I don’t mind putting down the keyboard. Looking forward to our time together. Every bit of it.
Entries may get dicey here over the next few weeks.
We’ll see.
