Matt’s birthday today. The big 7.
Boys leave, and now I’m down with the crud. Hoping for a quick recovery.
Up early. The six of us drove to Elevenmile reservoir and spent the morning on the water onboard a pontoon boat. Fishing was terrible, but the day was lovely. Had burgers afterward at the Thunderbird in Florissant.
Winding down another wild week. Took it easy today. Lots of family time around the house.
Looking forward to a quiet, uneventful evening.
Been a long few days since my last entry. Many goings on. Fishing, camping, excursions to the parks and movie theaters…. So much I can’t keep track. Mommy comes back tomorrow after a two-week hiatus to Bethesda, and Minneapolis. Only seven more days until live gets back to normal. Or whatever normal turns out to be. Glad I haven’t had much freelance work to look after. Not sure how I’d have managed to keep up.
Hot, hot day.
Spent the morning messing around the house, the afternoon at the Manitou Arcade. Can’t say I remember much on either side of that, but the sloppy joe’s we had for dinner were the best ever.
Tired.
Long day.
Got in some swimming with the boys after my PT session.
Looking at an early turn in tonight and an equally early rise tomorrow.
Whole day fishing.
The little guys are getting better with every outing. Took home two rainbow—breakfast later in the week.
Temps are the only thing holding us back. A full week of ninety degree weather still ahead. We’ll see whether it holds. Have a camp site reserved up in Elevenmile canyon, but the bureau is keeping to its prediction of rain that night.
Bushed tonight. Figure to hit the sack at an early hour.
PT with Brian tomorrow. After that, who knows?
Just back from the county fair in Calhan. Big fun. Bumper cars, funnel cake, live animals…the whole enchilada.
Start of our first week solo. Boys will be well-tended but parent-less for the next two weeks. Hoping for lots of outdoor time, weather permitting.
Haven’t had any real keyboard time for a while, but figure the time off will do me some good. Not so with the gym time, but that’ll work itself out, too.
Hot weather’s set in with temps in the nineties now. We’re supposed to have an overnight camping trip up in Elevenmile Canyon this week, but the weather bureau is calling for rain. Fingers crossed we avoid the worst.
Dinner at K’s tonight!
Quick check in.
Been having a blast with the boys. Fishing, swimming, kicking around the mountains….
Pretty night tonight.
All quiet on the western front.
More rain. Figure that.
Worked around the house today, and left the rest up for grabs. Got in a little bit of writing early on, but not much. The odds won’t improve when the boys fly in tomorrow evening, yet it’s the one occasion I don’t mind putting down the keyboard. Looking forward to our time together. Every bit of it.
Entries may get dicey here over the next few weeks.
We’ll see.
Up early to Kairos this morning to catch up my bud, G. Spent a couple of hours shooting the breeze. A nice getaway.
Mowed the lawn and policed the yard before going off to the gym for a light workout. Hailed while I was gone, so more policing tomorrow. On the happy side, the grass looks fine and the mountains are one more day into the summer without being on fire.
Looking for an easy evening.
Hope to get some writing in tomorrow. Need to send off my latest N review as well.
Overcast morning did an about face and turned into a sunny afternoon.
Meanwhile, worked on one of my old shorts, had a rehab session with Brian, did a few odd chores around the house, and picked up some new pillows at Bed Bath & Beyond in anticipation of the boys’ visit.
Got a haircut too.
Have an early morning with my pal, George, tomorrow. Interested in knowing how the writer’s strike is coming (or not), and getting the release date for his show.
Woke up believing it was Tuesday, and found out different.
Plugged away at the keyboard early on. Talked to S for a while, then went off to the gym where some chick with a bad ear couldn’t help herself from singing (out of tune) in a high voice through her entire workout.
Came home and cooked up a pot of split pea soup.
Rain set in again around 5:30.
Pretty morning. Watched the neighborhood kids ride down to the park on their bikes for the big parade.
Spent most of the day cleaning up and sending off the Philharmonic projects. Glad to have them out of the way. Need to start gearing up for the boys’ visit. Lots to do this week.
Big rain this afternoon. Took a quick stroll around the neighborhood when it was over.
Not much else going on. Burgers and fries tonight. Might turn in early and get back to the Faulkner book.
Tomorrow? Who knows?
Woke early and never got back to sleep.
Spent the morning in the cottage, making what I hope to be the last, or close to last, of the revisions on the Philharmonic projects. Been a long haul, but the work feels solid. Gonna give it all a final look-see tomorrow, then send it off, and cross my fingers everybody likes it.
Spoke to Jack on FT just before heading off to the gym. Excited to see them. Need to push things into high gear before they arrive.
Talked to my sis for a while this afternoon. Nice to catch up again. Hoping to spend some time with her up in Wyoming this summer, but it’s too far out to make any plans.
Looking forward to dusting off one of my own manuscripts and getting back to fiction for a while.
Was up early, expecting rain. Nothing but sunshine most of the day.
Spent the better part of the morning finishing my reader drafts of the Philharmonic articles. Happy to have them squared away—or nearly squared away, anyway—and looking forward to spending the weekend on a story or two.
Put in a light workout at the gym, then came home and mowed the lawn. Took a stroll around the block, too. Figure to get back on my usual schedule with the weights and heavy bag after I send off the project work. Meanwhile, just gonna plug ahead.
Sky turned gray about an hour ago, so maybe we’ll get the rain after all. Hope so. The grass is looking a little crispy around the edges.
Getting tired of the same old, same old. With luck, I might get out on the water for a day’s fishing before long.
Awful winds early this morning. Woke around 5:00 and couldn’t get back to sleep. On the positive side, no trees were blown down. Walked outside expecting a cool day and instead was met with a warm, muggy breeze.
Spent the morning at the keyboard, but took a mid-day break to meet up with my pal, Sol. Enjoyed a couple of fine lattes and some equally fine conversation.
Worked on the Philharmonic projects the rest of the afternoon. Hope to get to the last of them tomorrow. Should be a good day for writing. Nothing to hold me back.
Still no news about the boys or their summer visit.
Eager to find an excuse to head up into the mountains and do some fishing.
Long quiet day. Made headway with the Philharmonic projects but still have a ways to go.
Weather warmed, temps in the mid-eighties. Hoping for more rain that probably won’t come. Not supposed to see any relief until the end of the week.
Spent the last two days putzing around the yard pulling weeds, pruning bushes, hauling weeds, and trying to figure out what the hell’s wrong with the grill.
Been trying to catch up with my reading, too. Finished The Last of the Mohicans on Friday, and figure to start on the Arthur book when it comes tomorrow. Read Le Morte D’Arthur twenty or thirty years ago—but hey, this new joint, it comes with illustrations by N.C. Wyeth.
Gotta hop back on the Philharmonic pieces tomorrow. Like to finish them before the end of the week, but expect it’ll depend on how many interruptions come my way.
Pretty day today. High clouds, blue sky, fantastic breezes. Enjoyed em knowing a hot weather streak starts tomorrow.
