Busy Friday.
Best parts, a nice long workout at the gym, and FaceTime with the boys.
Allergies out of control.
Need to buckle down tomorrow.
So. Slow day. Tried to wring something out of it, but too many distractions.
Got the news on Kit’s bloodwork today. Doc says they can’t figure out what’s going on with his thyroid, and that they can’t up his meds any further than they have. She said it could suggest cancer, and they could run a test, but we said no since it wouldn’t do any of us any good. We’re just gonna keep on as we’ve been doing and hope for the best until there’s nothing to hope for anymore.
Didn’t want to hear that, but I guess we’re in that place in life where bad news comes more cheaply and readily than good.
Leaving to get our Covid boosters soon. Waiting a few weeks before we take on the flu, SAR shots.
Got a call from Kit’s vet today. Said his bloodwork was excellent, but for his thyroid, which has orbited out of control. He’s taking his meds regularly (compound) so she’ll be looking into a higher dose. That, and checking for outliers. Right now, things seem okay. Who the hell knows, maybe he’ll outlive all of us.
Attended a concert last light at Oscar Blues, and turned in late. Hence the slower than usual start this morning.
Put in some time at the keyboard, then went for a lovely all-day drive up to Breckinridge. The aspen weren’t as spectacular this year as they have been in the past, but they were pretty enough and the mountains were magnificent and a splendid time was had by all.
Crossed two mountain passes (Wilkerson and Hoosier) saw two herds of pronghorn, and even happened on a moron feeding a fox at at a scenic overlook.
Had a nice cheeseburger lunch in the mountains. Hard to pick the highlight of the day.
Kit had a good session with the vet. She was happy about his over all condition, given his age and age-related maladies. The bloodwork won’t come in until mid-next week, but he passed the eye test and that was a relief. Last seen, he was lollygagging on the bed, so I guess we’re cool for now. Sure hope so.
Pretty, but quiet day. Didn’t get a lot accomplished. Spent some time with a couple of buddies, hit the gym for a quick workout, then came home and took care of housekeeping around the office.
Big vet appointment tomorrow for Kit. Hope to get a clearer picture of what to expect in the coming weeks and (if we’re lucky) months. I’m guessing there’ll be a new medication or two in his future. Something to help with his arthritis. We’ll see. Meantime, I’m gonna try and keep my imagination in check. At 18 and a half, I fear he’s spent nearly all of his nine lives, and the thing now is to manage expectations.
Mr. Kitcat has rediscovered the upstairs. Not sure what’s gotten into him, but he seems to be going through yet another small rally. Maybe his visit to the vet on Thursday will shed light on things.
Another lovely day, weather wise. Sun, blue skies…all of it. Walked to the gym this afternoon following a solid morning at the keyboard.
Looks like it’s going to be a fine evening. Mild weather the rest of the week.
Postcard day. Deep blue sky, high clouds, sunshine and soft breezes.
Put in some good work at the keyboard. Worked revisions on a couple of shorts, wrote an N critique, and took notes on two stories for Monday’s meeting.
Did a little shopping late afternoon. Picked up a sack of mussels and a baguette for dinner.
Looking forward to a quiet evening.
Short one tonight.
Still working through some serious head fog.
Took care of some commercial commitments this morning, then settled in and revised an old story.
Hit the gym at noon. Afterward, trimmed the hedges and reseeded the lawn.
Best part about the day was the weather, and here’s hoping it sticks around for a few more days.
Quiet day.
Wrote a bit, worked out, got a haircut.
There must’ve been something in between, or around the edges, but for the life of me I can’t remember what they were.
Wonderful morning. Sunny, breezy, cool.
Got up early and spent an hour on the porch swing drinking coffee and watching the world goodbye. Wrote for a while on the long piece. Did some thinking on the Croft seminar piece, too.
Took a drive mid-afternoon, then came home and worked a little longer. An easy Sunday, for sure.
Didn’t get to the gym, but did take a nice long walk around the neighborhood.
Porkchops in mushroom gravy tonight. Figure to watch a little TV and hit the rack early. Get in some reading time.
Lovely day. Fine, in every way.
Did some good writing this morning, then went off for a movie. Did a little shopping for the kitties late afternoon, then headed over to the gym for a short workout and home again for a nice walk around the neighborhood.
The sun has that low autumn slant again, and the light is magic. Need to give some serious thought to a day of fishing this week.
Taking it easy tonight. No big doings on the horizon. Just sitting back and enjoying the cool breezes.
Drizzly day.
Caught up with some old chums, wrote a little, did a little grocery shopping.
Yeah. Nothing to write home about, for sure.
Quiet day.
Pretty day, too.
Was up and writing early. Took a break mid-morning for a long-overdue phone call, then moseyed off to the gym and long PT session afterward.
Looking ahead to a quiet night…and a busy morning.
Long day, short entry.
Worked on the long piece today with great fervor. Not sure how much of it was useful fervor, but worked none the less.
Had a good workout at the gym. Visited with the neighbors afterward (met their new dog), then drove up to the Shops at Briargate to pick up a new bedspread.
Was hoping to get at one of my short pieces this afternoon, but time got away.
Lots of reading ahead of me. Need to look for an early rise.
Zoo had a special evening yesterday. They called it “silent” night at the zoo. No talking, no phone conversations, not music or PA announcements. Magical time. Hope they do it again sometime.
Good day today. Good writing, good report from the dentist, good day at the gym.
Just back from a walk around the neighborhood. Weather’s finally come into fall, and it feels terrific. Overcast most of the day. Not sure what tomorrow’s going to bring, but looking forward to it.
Tonight, taking it easy.
Squandered most of the day, and was happy to do it.
Wrote for a while this morning—a last round of revisions on a short story I’d all but abandoned—and solved what seemed an insolvable problem with the piece. At least I think I did.
Spent the afternoon kicking around downtown and treating ourselves to a nice lunch at Jose’s. After, came home and took a long nap.
Wrote a letter to Elena after I got up, and took care of a couple of housekeeping items. Need to catch up with boys this week. Figure out travel plans.
Right now, just gonna sit back and enjoy the rain.
Talked to my buddy S this morning. Made for a great day.
It’s what? September? So where are the cool breezes?
Another hot day. But a good morning having coffee with my pal, G. Wrote a little when I got home, then off to the gym, then off to PT, then back home to the keyboard.
Cracked Sanctuary today. Guess I’m not finished with my Faulkner fix. Re-reading everything he did, marveling more than ever at how he managed it.
Got lucky. Dodged another Covid scare.
Up early to a nice, cool morning. The afternoons are still hot to beat hell, but the fringe times of the day are getting more tolerable all the time. It ain’t fall yet, exactly, but you can feel it coming.
Put in a decent workout at the gym, despite the fact there were more folks there than usual. Did my thing, then came home, finished The Sound and the Fury, and took a short nap.
Got in some okay writing time this afternoon on the long piece. Feels like it’s coming together. Have an early morning with my buddy, G, tomorrow at Kairos, but figure to take on one of the new shorts I’ve been wrestling with when I get home.
Looking at a breezy evening. Ready to turn off the A/C and open the windows.
